Indians Traveling Abroad May Now Receive B1/B2 Visa Appointments at U.S. Embassy

2024-07-09

As part of a new initiative, Indians traveling abroad may now receive B1/B2 visa appointments at the U.S. embassy or consulate of their destination, according to the U.S. Embassy in India.

In a tweet on February 3rd, the embassy announced, "Do you have upcoming international travel? If so, you may be able to get a visa appointment at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your destination. For example, @USEmbassyBKK has opened B1/B2 appointment capacity for Indians who will be in Thailand in the coming months."

Visa appointment

In a series of latest efforts, the U.S. mission in India released more than 2,50,000 additional B1/B2 appointments a few weeks ago. But despite efforts to reduce the backlog, appointment wait times for a U.S. visa in India are at an all-time high. The current waiting period in Bangkok for B1/B2 interviews is 14 days instead of between 589 days in Kolkata and 638 in Mumbai.

People looking to renew their U.S. visa can submit their application through Dropbox. Since their biometrics are already with the U.S. government, they don't need another biometric evaluation.
